  • The 2024 season has not been kind to P Max Fried (Braves). Through 4 starts, he is 1-0 with 7.71 ERA, 1.99 WHIP, 6.7 strikeouts per 9 innings, and 5.0 walks per 9 innings. Last year, by contrast, the 6’4″ southpaw went 2-0 with 0.45 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 8.1 strikeouts per 9 IP, and 1.8 walks per 9 IP. No reason to panic, though. Brad Goldberg, who had a cup of coffee with the White Sox in 2017 and pitched for Team Israel in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, is a new bullpen coach for the Guardians. The 34-year-old is no stranger to Ohio. A suburban Cleveland native, he played and coached at Ohio State U. and spent several years in the Guardians’ farm system as a pitching coach before his most recent promotion.
