Career highlights
- Had a career batting average of .302 in 60 at-bats
- Played for the Chicago Cubs in Game 6 of the 1945 World Series. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th inning and the Cubs and Detroit Tigers tied 7-7, Block entered the game as a pinch runner for pinch-hitter Heinz Becker, who had drawn a walk, but the next batter flied out. Chicago went on to win the game in extra innings but lose the Series. Tigers LF Hank Greenberg dominated the Series, batting .304 with a .467 on-base percentage and a .696 slugging percentage
