The mechanism of modafinil, as I understand it, is to increase the production of histamine in one the part of the brain that promotes wakefulness and alertness. But I've not heard of it ever being prescribed to counteract the fatigue effects of SSRI antidepressants. Judging from all the comments it sounds worth it, but I'd still like to know if there's anyone with these symtoms on provigil and having any success. He was put through a second more thorough sleep study last week, and diagnosed with narcolepsy, and prescribed Provigil. I have been re-prescribed Lexapro (20 mg) because of a major clinical depression and social anxiety.
